About the artwork:
“May the Sun Shine is a work I created using traditional woodblock text on a wonderful old letterpress, thanks to Inkiana Press. The text is from a traditional Irish blessing, one that holds personal significance for me. The use of gold leaf in the disk shape is both a reference to the sun and a nod to my time in Thailand and Sudan. Being of pale Celtic heritage the sunshine on my face can be both a blessing and a curse. May the sun shine gently on our faces."
About the artist:
Melissa Dyer-Causton is a painter, printmaker and Art educator. Melissa enjoys the process of building an image in print, the play of ink on paper and the “graphic surprise” of unexpected discoveries. Melissa also loves the way the act of repeated image making becomes almost meditative as a process at its best.
Melissa specialised in Printmaking at Otago School of Fine Arts in the 90’s and then trained as an Art teacher. Melissa's teaching career has taken her to Germany, Sudan, Thailand and then back home to Auckland.
